The building PlatinumBCN, located in the technological district 22@ of Barcelona, scored 101 out of 110 in the qualification given by Leed Green Building. This qualification evaluates the sustainability of buildings. The complex is 24,000 m2 and is home to various companies and municipal institutions.

The development company wanted to create a building that was different from the rest of the technological district of Barcelona. And the differentiating factor chosen was sustainability. The name makes reference to the Platinum qualification, the highest given by Leed Green Building to buildings with top scores in their ranking.

The Project was awarded to the company Girona PGI Engineering, specialized in designing sustainable facilities. This company has already completed several projects such as the Gas Natural building or the football field of RCD Espanyol of Barcelona. The construction of PlatinumBCN was made with local and reusable materials and cost a total of 70 million Euros.

The characteristics of the building that make it a benchmark of sustainability are its thermal insulation, windowed surface, control of sunlight and water savings, among other features. These characteristics bring a high level of efficiency. PlatinumBCN saves up to 40% in energy and 46% in water consumption because it reuses grey and rainwater. It has photovoltaic panels on the rooftop, therefore it consumes part of the energy it generates. The plot is also 20% green area.

The building adapts the temperature to the metabolism of the people inside in order to generate a feeling of comfort at all times. As a final detail, it is important to highlight that the building is located in an area with easy access to public transportation, has a traffic area for bicycles as well as charging stations for electric vehicles, all which add points to their ranking.

With all these characteristics, Leed Green Building gave it 101 points, a score placing it in the Platinum category and making it the most sustainable rental office building in the world and the most sustainable office building in Europe.

Other buildings certified by Leed Green Building are the Chicago Bears stadium (USA), the Shanghai tower (China), Facebook headquarters (USA) and The Crystal exhibition center in London.
