The National Congress of Advanced Architecture and Construction 4.0, held in Barcelona from September 29 to October 1, addressed all the challenges that the construction sector is facing in order to be able to become a motor for economic recovery. Industrialization, digitalization, sustainability and decarbonization thanks to new materials and processes are the fundamental axes to move forward.

Rebuild was the first large event to be celebrated in Barcelona after the first outbreak of Covid-19 in Spain. More than 4,500 professionals from the sector, 100 corporate stands and 260 conference speakers from all around the world visited the Barcelona International Convention Center, beating the forecasts of the event organizers who made a great effort to guarantee the current safety measures were fulfilled.

During the three days of the congress, the importance of the building sector as an economic driver was stressed. For this, the president of Rebuild and CEO of AEDAS Homes, David Martínez, gave the attending representatives of the Government a memorandum with 24 initiatives for construction to be the start of the country’s economic recovery. The memorandum included a section dedicated to digitalization which mentioned the importance of implementing measures such as the introduction of new technologies or BIM in order to respond efficiently to the needs of the sector and attract new generations to make this their professional careers.

In fact, digitalization is one of the 11 points highlighted in Rebuild as the principal challenges that face the sector in the upcoming decade in order to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) included in the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations. Specifically, according to Gartner McKinsey, it is crucial to digitalize the urban and financial planning, design and project phases.

This edition of Rebuild also presented the latest novelties in industrialized systems, technological solutions and new materials.
