Breaking down walls to build a better world
When we talk about the real estate sector, we associate it with an almost all male universe. Tradition has taught us this association within the sector; however, the presence of women is starting to grow. According to Carolina Roca, general manager of the Roca Real Estate Group, “The difference in this sector is that the incorporation of females has not been gradual”.
Carolina is one of the exceptions in the real estate sector, in which only 9% of the managerial positions are held by women. She, as well as directing her company, is the vice president of the Association of Real Estate Developers of Madrid (Asprima) and is part of the Board of Directors of the Association of Developers and Constructors of Spain (APCE). The real estate group Roca is a family-run company with more than 50 years’ experience and is, also, a firm specialized in privately developed subsidized housing.
Women stand out for their presence in the most innovative niches in this sector, and Carolina Roca shows us this because she has always been committed through her company's business line to finding systems that lower the cost of housing and make it more accessible. She has also been involved in the associative life of her sector as a member of Women in Real Estate (Wires), an association that seeks to increase the performance and visibility of women in a man's world.
These associations are also planning solutions through the real estate market to face the current crisis as a consequence of the coronavirus. It deals with a macro project that hopes to develop 250,000 houses throughout Spain using unused land to cover the housing shortage through energy efficiency and sustainable building.
